Pastoral Support for Clergy
In the caring professions, those who work intensively with people are more effective when they themselves receive periodic support from a mentor, supervisor, line manager or counsellor.
The Diocese of Connor is committed to developing systems of pastoral support for groups and individuals. Several clergy have already found these beneficial to them and their ministry.
The former Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Harper, responded to the growing need for pastoral support by appointing a small team of trained clergy and lay people.
Support team members Desney Cromey, Fred Graham, Garth Bunting and Dick McDonald share a wide experience in areas such as relationships, bereavement, stress and work/management skills.
The service is for clergy and their spouses and is aimed at providing a professional, safe and supportive setting in which to explore issues, understand difficulties and bring about change. It is strictly confidential and anyone contacting the Pastoral Support Team can expect to meet with a counsellor within three weeks.
The diocese funds three one-hour sessions which are held at St George’s, High Street, Belfast, or St Patrick’s, Jordanstown.
